(when saving) replacing the original document with a Save As/Replace and also saving the document with a new title, the document still opens with the markup showing. I have to embed this Word doc on a website for a portfolio, and I really don't want anything but the final version to show. Speedy suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm using Word for Mac 2011 14.5.0 on a Macbook Pro, OS 10.9.5. Thanks, Joan. I think I've finally found the solution.

When Track Changes is enabled, the option's background is solid, as shown in Figure A. When it's disabled, the background is transparent. The button acts as a toggle — click it to enable it, click it again to disable it. A background color indicates that the feature is enabled.

• On the Review tab, under Tracking, on the Show Markup pop-up menu, click the option that you want. Tip: To display a shaded background behind the area where tracked changes or comments appear in the right margin, on the Show Markup pop-up menu, select Markup Area Highlight.

I use change tracking in Microsoft Word to collaborate with others while jointly editing a document, however, I am not interested in tracking formatting changes. On the Windows version of Word, I was able to easily turn of tracking of formatting changes, however, on Word for Mac 2011, I have been unable to accomplish this. On the Mac, under the Review tab, I can turn off visibility in the Tracking subsection by selecting the popup menu Show Markup and unchecking Formatting but formatting changes are still being tracked even when not visible. I also tried going to the Preferences.

Set options for the current print job in the Print dialog box. • Select a connected printer from the Printer drop-down list. • Specify the number of copies and range of pages to print. The Selection option for Pages is only available if you preselected part of the document in Step 2. • Optional: To alter Page Setup options (paper size, orientation, and paper feed method), click the Page Setup button. • Optional: To set Word-specific options, choose Microsoft Word from the drop-down menu.

To add comments, first determine how you want the them displayed. The options are Show Revisions in Balloons, which displays comments in a balloon to the right of the document); Show All Revisions Inline, which highlights the text inside the paragraph between vertical lines followed by the initials of the editor; and Show Only Comments and Formatting in Balloons, which displays the comment text on the right connected by dotted lines. Click the preferred option (you can change them at any time), and you’re ready to add comments. Choose how comments are displayed. Next, highlight the text where you want the comment inserted, then click the New Comment button under the Review tab. Word opens a Review Screen panel on the right side of the page with a vertical line that connects your selected text to a comments box. Enter your comments in it, then press the Esc key to exit when finished.

You can turn the balloons on or off in the Track Changes preferences pane. The Reviewing pane is an alternative to balloons for viewing changes. The Reviewing pane shows up as a pane to the left of your Word interface. Toggle the Reviewing pane on and off by one of these methods: • Choose View→Sidebar→Reviewing Pane. • Choose the Sidebar button on the Standard Toolbar, and then choose Reviewing Pane. • Click the Review Pane button in the Changes group of the Review tab.

In the document called 'original.docx' you then need to reject all changes (or if the document also has tracked changes by others, you can also just reject your own changes by first showing just yours (Show Markup > Reviewers > select your only) and then choosing Reject All Changes Shown.) In the document called 'revised.docx', you need to do the opposite: accept all changes (or again just yours). Now use the Compare function to compare your two versions of the document, with the one where you've rejected all changes as the original, and the one where you've accepted all changes as the revised version. This will give you a brand new document with tracked changes. This will not remove the timestamp on edits, but reset the timestamp on all edits to the moment you've done the compare. You can customize the timestamp by temporarily changing your computer's time and date settings before you run the compare.

You might find that you don't need to view all revision notes, and Word will let you remove some of them. For instance, perhaps you don't want to view formatting changes. In this case, you'd open the Track Changes Options ( Figure D) and uncheck the Track Formatting option. Comments While in the editor role, it's efficient to mark changes, such as typos and other formatting changes that you know must be made. Doing so makes it easy for the author to accept the change and move on to the next edit. You will, however, run into changes that are preferential. When this happens, use a comment to suggest the change.

My will demonstrate how to change the user name for the comment and mark-up (editing) tools in Adobe Acrobat DC—because no one wants to go undercover in Word only to be uncovered in Acrobat. Stay stealthy, my friends! Most of what Microsoft offers isnt straightforward but there is almost always a way.

FWIW I would give you the equivalent applescript, but I can't see the equivalent property names in the Dictionary for Word 2011. Alternatively, you can put the following code in a new Module in your Normal template (you can do that in the VB Editor). Change the width values att he top to the ones you want to use. Then, with a blank document (i.e. 'based on' Normal.dotm', run the @@@ routine. This should fix normal.dotm itself and change the default behaviour in future (I think!). However, there is also an AutoOpen routine in there which you may need to change the settings for existing documents.

Thanks in advance for your help! Thank you for reading my blog! Word can act a little strangely when dealing with the Document Inspector so I can’t guarantee this solution will work (so as always, do a test run on a copy of you file, not the original!), but you may want to try this: (1) After your group has completed all the edits as “Author,” save the document and then create a backup copy for safety. (2) Open the copy and return to the Backstage view. (3) Click the “Allow this information to be saved to your file” link that appears under the Inspect Document heading. (4) Save the document again. In theory, when you send this version of the document to your client, Word should once again record reviewer names and editing times for all new comments and edits.

When the All Markup option is selected, the tracked document displays with all changes by all users, with each users’ edits in a different color. Also, notice the gray vertical track lines in the left margin, which indicate a change on the adjacent line.

In the office, I use Windows and use tracked changes a lot for my work. I decided to bring some work home, where I'm using Microsoft Word 2011 for Mac. The Track Changes feature is on. I'm viewing the Final Showing Markup version, and I've applied the following Markup Preferences: Insertions: Underline Deletions: Strikethrough Insertions is working--new content I add is being underlined.

The next step is to place your cursor at the top of the document and click Next in the Changes panel. The cursor will advance to the first proposed correction.

Putting it all together Many users can get this far, but when you're working with a complex document with lots of reviewers (and revisions), the author's job is more difficult. What users don't realize is that Track Changes isn't an all-or-nothing feature; you can work with specific types of revisions, separately. For instance, let's suppose you want to accept (or reject) all the formatting changes because doing so will facilitate the rest of your editing task. But you don't want to accept anything else — not yet. You might think you're stuck, but you're not. You can accept only the formatting edits and get those out of the way: • Click the Show Markup drop-down (in the Tracking group). • Uncheck everything but the Formatting option, as shown in Figure G.

It’s easy to change, but be aware that if you change it for one document, the change holds for other documents on your computer. This is the case even after you close Word and reopen it. It’s a global setting for all your documents, not a setting for just one document. • Go to the Review tab and click the little drop-down arrow below the Track Changes button. • Select Change Tracking Options. • For Insertions, change ‘by author’ to a specific color (e.g.

I am using Word for Mac on my Macbook Pro with Lion. Everytime I open a particular document in Word, the view shows Markups, which is really distracting. I can go to View, and get rid of the markup view, but then it shows up again each time I open the document. Also, each time I open Word, every document I have worked on in the last few months opens, too.

I was asked by one of my users “How do I print from Word 2011 and see the markups from Track Changes?” I had no idea, so I had to do some poking around until I found the right options. Here’s how it works for anyone else who needs it. In Word 2011, go to File: Print. In the Print window, click on the Copies & Pages drop-down menu.

Whether you can’t afford (, $180), don’t like it, or just find yourself without it on one of your Macs, ( ); part of the $79 iWork suite) offers some similar features. For instance, if you want to work with others on a document, isn’t the only game in town. Pages can’t merge or compare documents. It's limited to marking changes, as well as recording notes and highlights. But this might be all you need.

You can use it to ensure that page breaks, margins, and the like are as you expect. • To print the complete document using the current print settings, click the Print icon on the Standard toolbar. Printing commences immediately—without displaying the Print dialog box. • If you save a document after printing it, the print settings are saved, too. This makes it easy for you to repeat a complex print job.

I'm using the Track Changes feature in Word 2011 (Mac) and I need to eliminate the time stamp feature that accompanies edits altogether. I turned off (unchecked) the 'Include reviewer, time stamp, and action buttons' selection in 'Show Markup > Preferences' pane, and while this does eliminate the reviewer and date/time stamp in the editorial balloons, when I hover over a balloon, a window appears that reveals the reviewer and date/time stamp! How can I prevent this from happening? Many thanks to all and make it a great day! Thanks, Paul. I found this same question posed on a PC-based Word forum, and a respondent offered the following instructions for addressing this issue in Word 2007 (PC) On the Office button menu, go to Prepare > Inspect Document. After inspecting the document, when the results panel shows up, click the button to remove all 'Document Properties and Personal Information'.

As an alternative, today’s tutorial demonstrates how to replace user names connected to all Track Changes (existing and future) with the default label Author. This solution obviously isn’t ideal for those of us who would like to change our user name for existing comments and edits to something other than Author, but it is useful when anonymity is important. This tutorial is also available as a YouTube video, which you can watch on my or in the video player at the bottom of this page. The images below are from Word 2016; however, the steps are the same for Word 2019 and similar for Word 2013. How to Remove User Names from Existing Track Changes Caution: This process is not reversible and applies to all users associated with the document, even those who haven’t used Track Changes. It also permanently removes authorship and “Last Modified By” data. Therefore, you should complete this process on a secondary copy of your document rather than on the original.
